Physical Education

The Physical Education program enables all students from P-6 to regularly engage in physical activity. The focus of the program is to motivate and encourage students to lead a healthy and active lifestyle whilst developing a range of fundamental motor skills. The students participate in different activities allowing them to gain the confidence they need in order to succeed. All students attend a specialist PE lesson once a week to refine and develop their skills through a wide range of sports and games.

The swimming and water safety program is run at Haileybury College indoor heated pool. Students from P-6 participate in an eight lesson program with qualified instructors. They develop their skills starting from beginner water familiarisation progressing through to more proficient stroke development. Each student is placed in an appropriate skill level group to complete their program.

Chandler Park Primary School is able to offer students a wide range of sporting facilities. The most recent addition is the brand new gymnasium housing a full sized indoor basketball court and changing facilities. A running track, soccer field and netball courts are utilised by all students during Physical Education lessons and at playtimes. The school grounds also include a grass oval, bat tennis courts and adventure playgrounds.

Rock Climbing

Students are offered the chance to attend Phillip Island Adventure Resort camp during their middle and senior years at Chandler Park. They stay in motel style accommodation and receive instruction in a range of outdoor activities. The focus of the camp is to work together in groups, develop confidence and become more independent.  Selected students in grade 5/6 are also invited to attend Somers School Camp for a nine day program. This is a unique experience as they attend the camp with children from other schools in our local area. They create new friendships which can last a lifetime. The wide range of activities include rock climbing, surfing, bush cooking, the giant swing, ropes courses and many more.

Chandler Park is a member of School Sport Victoria and students compete against other primary schools in the Noble Park Sport Association. During term 1 the grade 5/6 children are offered bat tennis, kanga cricket, basketball, volleyball and softball in a weekly competition. The senior students also have opportunities to contest events in athletics carnivals, cross country runs and are able to progress through to regional and state competitions.

Junior School Cross Country – 2015

Congratulations to all the students that ran on the day and the parents that attended in not so perfect conditions. Well done the grade 2 girls in particular who were unlucky enough to catch a shower or two. It was great to see the grade 6 students out there marshaling the course cheering and giving encouragement. A number of grade 6 students ran with the junior school children which was appreciated.

There were some particularly impressive individual efforts. Children received their certificates and ribbons at a Junior school Assembly.

Well done to all the students who qualified and we wish you all the best for district cross country at Tatterson Park.
